A concrete slab on grade, or floating slab foundation, is a practice where concrete is poured all at one time and there is no clearance between the ground and the slab.
Slab on grade is primarily used in areas where the ground doesn’t freeze. However, the concrete slab can be adapted with insulation. There is also a trend with newer homes to add radiant floor distribution systems to keep the concrete slab nice and warm during cold winters.
